This session will highlight the setup and structure of a classroom library, review the importance of a wide variety of book genres, when to include read alouds during the day and extension activities that can be completed for hands on learning experiences that will "bring books to life" for our young students as well as how to get families involved with a "mystery reader" program.

This professional development session will focus on how to intentionally embed metacognitive strategies within the Benchmark Advance curriculum to strengthen student comprehension, engagement, and independence as readers. Participants will explore how Benchmark Advance lessons provide opportunities for students to think about their thinking before, during, and after reading through explicit modeling, collaborative conversations, close reading routines, and comprehension strategy instruction.
Teachers will leave with classroom-ready strategies, planning considerations, and instructional routines that help students become more purposeful, reflective, and independent learners while maintaining alignment to the Benchmark Advance curriculum and the science of reading.
